What makes this work so perfectly is that Fight Club really *is* motivated by (or self-consciously meta-commenting on, if you like) the fear of being turned into a sentimental victorian lady. So there’s a sort of organic rightness to the modern-day Austen industry having exactly this kind of dark-subconscious; the attraction of Austen brings with it exactly the same kind of mindless backlash-id of Tyler Durden.
The second-half pivot into Tarantino also works stunningly well. Kill Bill kind of actually completely *is* Austen + Fight Club. Or maybe not, but it’s done well enough here that I’m going to say that it is.
I want all of it.
